Denver Dental Implants

Premier Dentistry for Denver, Cherry Creek & Englewood, CO

Losing teeth not only leads to self-consciousness about your smile, the gaps left by missing teeth also make it difficult to chew and speak, and can allow surrounding teeth to drift and tilt.

With dental implants, our experienced Cherry Creek dentists can restore strength, function, and beauty in your smile. If you live in Cherry Creek or the greater Denver area and want to know if you are a good candidate for dental implants, please call DeWitt Dental Associates at 303-321-5656 to schedule a consultation today.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental Implants DenverA dental implant is composed of two parts. The implant itself is a small titanium screw that is surgically placed into the jaw to physically replace the root of a missing tooth. Once in place, a natural process called osseointegration allows your jawbone to biologically fuse with the implant over a period of a few months, which means that it becomes a part of your body, not unlike an artificial knee or elbow.

Once the area surrounding the dental implant has healed, a ceramic or porcelain dental crown is attached to a small abutment that protrudes from the gums. This crown looks, feels, and functions just like a natural tooth and can be shaded to seamlessly blend with your smile. After the crown is in place, your implant placement is complete.

At DeWitt Dental Associates, we work with experienced oral surgeons who will place the implant beneath your gums. Once you have healed and the implant has fully fused with the bone in which it was implanted, our cosmetic dentists will place the tooth restoration over the abutment for complete smile rejuvenation.

Advantages Offered by Dental Implants

Dental implants offer numerous advantages over other restoration methods. Because the implant becomes a physical part of your mouth, the jawbone does not continue to lose strength. Dentures and dental bridges address the crown of the missing tooth, but do not replace the root. It is the root, however, that lets your body know where bone is needed in the jaw. No root means no signals being sent that bone is needed. With time, this will result in structural changes, including collapse, in the jaw. Dental implants prevent this eventuality by replacing the root of missing teeth.

Dental implants will not come loose or fall out after they have been accepted into the jaw, nor will they need to be replaced over time. Once placed, your dental implant will be a part of your smile as long as you take steps to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Long-lasting, incredibly effective, and easy to care for, you keep implants healthy in the same manner as your natural teeth. Brushing, flossing, and regular checkups are all you need to maintain a healthy smile. There’s no soaking regimen, and you don’t need to follow any special diets. Once the implant is in place, you don’t have to think about it anymore. You can simply enjoy your life.

Dental Implant Candidates

Most patients who wish to receive dental implants are able to do so. General considerations for implant dentistry candidates include being:

  • In generally good health
  • A nonsmoker
  • Free of gum disease and other serious oral health problems
  • Willing to follow pre and postoperative instructions

Implant Candidates in Cherry CreekIf you have been missing teeth for quite some time, it is likely that your jawbone will lack the structure necessary to properly support an implant. This issue can be dealt with through bone-grafting, though that is also not an ideal option for every patient.

When there is insufficient bone structure to support a traditional dental implant and bone-grafting is not a good option, other types of dental implants may be recommended. Plate-form and subperiosteal options may be discussed during your implant dentistry consultation when this is the case. These dental implant alternatives are placed below the gums but above the bone in the jaw, giving them more support than options like dentures, but not as much as traditional implants.

If your jaw lacks the proper width and density to support a dental implant, we can also discuss other tooth replacement options, including a dental bridge, that may be less invasive and equally effective as some implant alternatives. Like dental implants, bridges are restored with natural-looking and long-lasting dental crowns. Unlike dental implants, we can complete the entire process of bridge placement and restoration in a single day with our CEREC technology. During your tooth replacement consultation at our Chery Creek office, we can discuss this in greater detail to ensure we are meeting all of your needs.

Financing Your Dental Implant Restoration

At DeWitt Dental Associates, we restore dental implants placed by our trusted oral surgeon partners. The most common restoration for dental implants are crowns, which can be made of porcelain or ceramic, and are easily shaped, shaded, and sized, to fit unobtrusively into your smile.

Because we offer same-day dental crowns, we can quickly restore dental implants as soon as they have been secured into the jaw – allowing you to go forward with a strong and attractive smile in a fraction of the time that would required for a crown milled off-site. In many instances, insurance will cover the cost of a dental crown, but if this is not the case for you, we would be happy to discuss other financing options.

We accept most major credit cards, but understand that financing dental services with personal credit may be unattractive to some patients. In these instances, you may want to consider CareCredit, a cosmetic dentistry financing company that offers promotional rates including 0% APR and low, fixed monthly payments. We can provide you with information about CareCredit during your initial consultation or you can visit their website for an application.
